Who we are and how we work

Conceived by Ian Hastings QPM (retired Detective Superintend NZ Police) in 1979 as a means of fundraising for Drug Education, Las Vegas Functions is now New Zealand’s largest, and the original, casino entertainment business offering Casino Party Entertainment to corporates, private homes, sports clubs, schools, clubs & more.

In 2017 Ian’s daughter Debbie, took over the running of the business with Ian available as a consultant when needed. Debbie & her husband Brian continue & expand the business with exciting new options.

With a base of staff and equipment in AUCKLAND, TAURANGA, WELLINGTON & CHRISTCHURCH we have the ability to offer casino themed entertainment in most locations throughout the country.

We have over 100 games, staff with bags of personality, and over forty years experience to ensure your event is outstanding for your guests.

FAQs

Can we hire just the casino equipment without staff?2019-12-04T10:50:40+13:00

Unfortunately the answer to this is no. We are entertainers, like a band but way more fun, and all the games come with trained Croupiers/Dealers. The only time we have hired out our equipment without staff is for Television and Photo Shoots. Our casino equipment has been used on Shortland Street, Outrageous Fortune, The Almighty Johnsons, (to name a few).

Is there an age limit?2019-12-04T10:51:20+13:00

No. Our casino games only use “funny money” which makes them no different to playing a board game or cards at home, we prefer to use the word “GAMING” instead of “gambling”. We are not responsible for the venues and they may have an age limit so pays to check with them.

Do you have to know how to play the games?2019-12-04T10:51:57+13:00

No. Our staff are trained to teach as well as deal and if someone doesn’t know how to play at the table they will help them to learn.  We also provide “Blackjack Strategy Cards” at all the Blackjack tables and these make it much easier to play.

It varies depending on the time of year and location of the venue. Quote enquiries through the website are answered as soon as humanly possible (except on weekends when we are busy at casino functions). NB: every year we get booked out over the key CHRISTMAS dates through November/December and we highly recommend booking these dates early to avoid disappointment.

We can provide our entertainment throughout NZ, however some locations will incur additional travel costs. Either send us a quote request call us on 0800 LAS VEGAS.

Do you charge a deposit?2019-12-04T10:53:11+13:00

Yes 50% of full price, unless you prefer to pay in full up front. Deposit invoices will be sent once you have completed our online booking form and payment of deposit is expected within 7 days of deposit invoice date. Balance to pay invoice is usually sent in week before function date.

Do you refund deposits if we cancel?2019-12-04T10:53:51+13:00

We don’t refund deposits, however, if you cancel with more than 7 days notice we will allow you to re-use your deposit for a booking within then next 12 months (additional charges or discounts may apply depending on the time of year booked e.g. Xmas dates are the highest priced and Jan/Feb the lowest). Cancellations with less than 7 days notice will forfeit their deposit (at the discretion of Las Vegas Functions).

No, prizes are up to you to supply, however, we can purchase prizes on your behalf if you require and the costs would be added to your fee (only available in Auckland).

What sort of prizes should we provide?2019-12-04T10:55:04+13:00

It’s really up to you. We have seen everything from an overseas holiday to a packet of cards. Some good ideas are: Bottles of Wine or Bubbles; Poker Sets; Toy Cars (just like the casino gives away cars but on a much smaller scale); Gift Baskets; Tee Shirts (printed with the name and date of your function) etc…

How many prizes should we provide?2019-12-04T10:55:36+13:00

We recommend a minimum of 3 and the maximum is up to you. It does depend on how big your function is and what style event you are doing.

How big should the venue be?2019-12-04T10:56:13+13:00

This will depend on how many games you are having, how many people, whether you are having a sit-down meal or not and the style/shape of the venue. As a rule of thumb, if you were just looking at guests and casino games, look for a venue that will cater to the amount of guests you have “Dining or Banquet” style and this will allow enough room for the casino games and people to move around freely. If you were also having a sit-down meal then just double it. When we email a quote we also send out an example room layout to give you and idea of the various game sizes and space they take up.

Do you supply tables and chairs?2019-12-04T10:56:54+13:00

No, we require you or the venue to provide tables and chairs for our casino table tops. In Auckland we can supply a limited number of trestle tables at no extra charge but this is subject to availability. Most venues prefer us to use their tables and chairs so they don’t have to remove them from the room. We can also supply a limited number of table cloths in most of our main locations but once again, request early if you need them. There are no extra charges for the trestles and table cloths if available.

In Auckland we have an MP3/iPod with a large playlist that includes casino style and party music and we can also supply a speaker and a microphone – all are subject to availability and extra charges may apply.

Do you have an Open Photo Booth?2019-12-20T08:38:40+13:00

Yes in AUCKLAND only we have an awesome open photo booth with a choice of 8 different backdrops – large enough for big group photos. The photo booth comes with a photographer, printed photos on site and/or digital photos. Price on application.

Are you looking for staff?2019-12-04T10:59:09+13:00

YES – we are always on the lookout for new staff, especially people with casino gaming experience. All our staff work on a casual, on-call basis and our busiest periods are June-September and November-December (the busiest by far). Most of our Croupiers/Dealers also have full-time day jobs and work for us for a little extra cash and because they enjoy it.

    I just wanted to say formal thanks to you, Thomas and the team for a great 2.5 hours entertainment last night. We all had great clean fun and you have maybe inspired some to take it up with real money. Thomas was a real character and drove enthusiasm around the room.

    Just for the record, we had 35 turn up and it was a perfect number for the 3 tables. I’m also glad I took your advice on the two Blackjack tables.

    Our Social Club in Ranui will be in touch as they are considering holding a similar function.

    I want to mention what a great night all the staff from ASPEQ and ASL Ltd had last Saturday. I have had many compliments on how great the Las Vegas evening was, it was a great success. I have also had requests for your companies details from staff to look into for their own events.

    Our staff had a great night learning new games and either winning or losing some (or in some cases all) of their money. Martin and his team are very friendly and entertaining and made the night an ease. There was not one unhappy person in the room.  I personally found your staff very funny and helpful.

    I would like to say what an incredible night we had on Saturday at our Las Vegas night at Eastcliffe Retirement Resort. Ian & his staff were amazing – so patient as many of our guests had never been to a Casino let alone knew what to do, but the Croupiers spent time teaching them and very soon you would have thought they were PRO’s and playing for REAL MONEY! The laughter and hilarity had to be seen and heard to be believed.

    My committee were a little indifferent about a Las Vegas night when I put the idea to them but they had to admit it was the best night ever we had had at the village. I was so pleased I took your advice Debbie and didn’t have any other entertainment – we didn’t need it – the night was entertainment in itself and it saved us a lot of money. My phone has been red hot to-day with thanks from people expressing how much they enjoyed it and asking to make it an annual event ! We had sold tickets to family and friends as well as residents, so it gave a good mix of ages.

    I attended a function run by Las Vegas Functions at the Novotel Hotel on Friday 11th July as part of the GTS social club.     We would like to thank you and your team for Friday night’s event. We all had a fantastic time and were very impressed with the way the event worked. The format of the night was a team event, we had 5 teams with 5-6 people in each team. It was a competition to see which team could accumulate the most money by the end of the night. We found this worked well in comparison to how individual’s would play as we all swapped money and helped each other out, found out who was good at each game and had other people to back us up in each of the games.

    We were very impressed with the way the team event worked and it was a good team building exercise as well as being a fun night.
